One person

The project "One Person" proposes the construction of a high-tech interactive installation in an urban environment. The installation is a complex technological structure with strictly defined functions. Visually, the object represents an anthropomorphic human figure, constructed from a modular steel truss structure with double-sided LED screens. Dynamic content is submitted to the screens, generated by a computer algorithm in two modes, in constant self-actualization.

The first mode is related to signals directly received from two cameras located on both sides of the figure. At specific intervals, a short recording from the video surveillance, capturing passersby, is uploaded as a fragment onto the screens, with each screen "capturing" one or several pedestrians. Thus, the large "screen body" will appear composed of numerous tiny figures. Every full hour the video streaming is displayed in "full format" for 10 minutes, allowing viewers to overlay their silhouettes within the figure's contour.

The second mode generates data analysis. In technological terms, this is the most innovative aspect of the project. This mode refers to the computer control, of infrastructure and environmental systems, the vast amounts of real-time data collected from sensors, and the formation of a new information space known as Big Data. "One Person" operates through a program code that gathers, analyzes, and visualizes information associated with the city, its dynamics, environmental quality, etc. Both visualization and interpretation, of this information, as artistic material are the "electronic fabric" from which "one person" is constructed.

The two modes that generate screen content work synchronously in creating a homogeneous visual environment.

The installation "One Person" falls into the category of process-oriented art, where the interaction with the artwork is a constituent and substantive element. Through its functionality, the work is detached from the author's control and represents a flexible structure dependent on people's behavior and environmental changes. The location of the artwork requires such an approach. Modern technologies allow for the construction of open-access systems, with a more liberal rather than authoritarian way of functioning. An object built on this principle would be a good reflection of our collective image at the moment.

The figure dominating the public space is not a specific historical figure but a sum of a constantly updating multitude of random passersby or intentional visitors. The interactive element leads to the possibility of playful interactions but could also lead to sharp social messages. Building such a platform would be a positive sign of the development of democratic processes in our country. We are yet to witness the growth of "One Person" and see its deductions from the great equation of the city and its people.
