The other – no other than the self?  
Video installation by ninavale ( NINA Kovacheva & Valentin Stefanoff) 

The video installation was created as part of ninavale's solo exhibition “Surplus Enjoyment” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, Taiwan. Subsequently, The Other – none other than the Self? was shown in numerous other museums and galleries in different countries but never till now in Sofia. 

Тwo young people were filmed in slow motion. The viewer sees them running, as in a dream, one towards the other, one after the other, but never reaching each other. Everyone's body is trapped in a large glass vase becoming, quasi "spiritual body" of the vase.

Their enormous reflections fall on the walls of the room, where they are released, but transformed, acquiring angelic or perhaps demonic features.

Does our connection with each other remain just a longing and a dream? Is togetherness in reality ultimately a loss of reality, or rather a gain in reality?

Can we be at peace with ourselves only if we continue to separate from each other and thus not remain alone?

Or should we embrace the idea that our connection with each other is not about constantly chasing and pursuing each other in our relationships, but rather about seeing it as a dance of constantly moving closer and further away from each other?
