What remains when both natural and anthropogenic processes erode our surroundings? How can recovering memories of our recent past inform our decisions regarding a future that is getting more and more complicated? How can we re-learn to navigate increasingly digitized realities that shape our human and more-than-human interactions? In this age when history is subjectively archived, technologically mediated, and often distorted, how do we engage with the physical traces of the past?
Fluid Architectures offers a nuanced portrait of contemporary Romania, a nation grappling with its past, the enduring power of memory being a stubborn enabler of this phenomenon, as it navigates its present and begins to chart a course towards an uncertain future. The works explore the interplay between physical and digital within the urban landscape, the fragile remains of personal and collective histories, and the tensions between digital realities and embodied experience.
Rather than seeking definitive answers, the works are the starting point for a critical dialogue, creating a space for reflection towards our own relationships with memory, place, and technology, and how these forces shape our individual and collective identities.
