Blue Room

The Blue Room is an investigation into how image transforms through acts of repetition and remediation. The project traces the journey of a short video sequence recorded in downtown Bucharest, that is copied and translated across different media, questioning the relationship between an original and its copy.

The initial digital video was remediated into individual photograms, using one of the oldest photographic processes (cyanotypes) on glass, translating the intangible screen to a tangible object, followed by another layer of remediation, as the plates were scanned and brought back into digital video format, albeit aesthetically unrecognisable. 

The final work is, in a way, a copy of a copy of a copy, with each repetition and act of remediation introducing new materialities and different senses of time.
